Removing moldy drywall is demolition. What makes a project succeed for a sensitive household is what happens after: the systematic removal of fine particulate from every surface in the affected space. This is the discipline most contractors skip.

Why fine particles are the real fight

Spores are only part of the exposure picture. Fragmented fungal and bacterial material — pieces far smaller than intact spores, carrying allergens and metabolites — settle on every horizontal and vertical surface and resist casual cleaning. The method

The professional sequence is HEPA-sandwich cleaning: HEPA vacuum every surface top-down, damp-wipe with frequently changed cloths, then HEPA vacuum again. How many passes does it take?

Plan on at least two full HEPA-vacuum-and-damp-wipe cycles of the affected zones, with verification determining whether more are needed. Heavily contaminated or long-duration buildings often need three.

Does ozone or fogging replace this?

No. Oxidizers and fogging do not remove particles; removal is physical. For sensitized households, added chemical residues create their own problems.
